Covid-19: A nurse looks back at a year on the frontline Posted: 4:34 pm January 29, 2021 By Jonathan Rainey A NURSE from Trillick who has been working on the frontline since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic has called on members of the public to continue to remember ‘hands, face and space’ to reduce some of the pressure the NHS is currently experiencing. Staff nurse, Andrea Li, who is based in Ward 8 (Covid Ward) at the South West Acute Hospital, has been nursing Covid positive patients since March 2020. Reflecting on the last 11 months, she said, “Patients that come through our ward are often acutely unwell requiring the use of high flow oxygenated therapy. We use a variety of machines with these patients often alternating between two, Airvo and CPAP.

Coronavirus in Fermanagh and Omagh: One further death

  Today’s daily update from the Department of Health shows that one more person has died from Covid-19 in Fermanagh and Omagh in the past 24 hours, In the same period 41 people tested positive for the virus in Fermanagh and Omagh. There were 22 deaths recorded in Northern Ireland with four of them occurring outside of the 24 hour reporting period. The total number of deaths as a result of the virus is now 1,814. Across the whole of Northern Ireland there were 669 new cases of the virus recorded. Breaking down Fermanagh by postal district from January 18-24 shows that BT92 had 35 positive cases, BT74 had 36, BT94 had 17 and BT93 had 18 positive cases.

Today’s daily update from the Department of Health showed 24 people tested positive for the virus in Fermanagh and Omagh; however, there were no deaths recorded in the local Council area. The total number of cases sits at 5,231, while deaths remain at 73. Breaking down Fermanagh by postal district from January 18-24 shows that BT92 had 35 positive cases, BT74 had 36, BT94 had 17 and BT93 had 18 positive cases. Looking at the positive cases from the last week by age, there were 33 cases in people aged 19 and under; 60 in those aged between 20 and 39; 64 between 40 and 59; 23 between 60 and 79, and 12 aged 80 and over. Across Northern Ireland, 527 people tested positive while 16 deaths were recorded. The number of individuals who tested positive over the last seven days stands at 4,246, compared to 12,144 in the January 6 report.
