COVID-19 vaccine eligibility has again expanded in Windsor-Essex, this time to anyone age 40 and older with an “at-risk” medical condition or living in a hot-spot postal code.
The local health unit on Tuesday announced 40-somethings in both groups would now be able to book appointments at the region’s six mass vaccination sites. Previously, those locations were only open to older people, some essential workers, and those with high-risk medical conditions.

Health unit warns of reinfection among previously positive COVID-19 cases
The Windsor-Essex County health unit is warning people who have contracted COVID-19 in the past not to become complacent about following restrictions as they can become re-infected.

There are 15 ongoing outbreaks.
They include two school outbreaks one in Ecole secondaire catholique l Essor in Tecumseh and one in Amherstburg Public School in Amherstburg.
There are 11 workplaces that have active outbreaks, including:
Three in Leamington s agriculture sector.
One in Windsor s construction sector.
One in Lakeshore s food and beverage sector.
One in Windsor s food and beverage sector.
Two in Windsor s health care & social assistance sector.
One in Tecumseh s manufacturing sector.
One in Windsor s repair and maintenance sector.
One in Windsor s retail sector.
There is one outbreak in Extendicare Southwood Lakes in Windsor with three staff who have tested positive for the virus and one outbreak in Southwest Detention Centre.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman facing three counts of attempted murder saw her case put over to next week.
Mary Smith appeared briefly Friday in a Chatham courtroom via teleconference. Her lawyer, Greg McGivern, told the court a meeting with the Crown was held this week and asked for the matter to return April 30 to set a date for judicial pretrial.
Ten “large” gaming machines and a quantity of suspected fentanyl and other illicit narcotics were among the items seized by local and regional officers in a recent Perris, Calif. raid. One gang member was arrested and another suspect could be charged.

The gambling machines are “believed to be related to an illegal gambling operation,” Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said in a statement following the raid late last week.
Special agents from the Department of Justice Bureau of Gambling Control took part in the court-ordered search of the property.
