Wichita-area Kansas House member Ron Howard dies after illness
Rep. Ron Howard, who represented Wichita s south side in the Kansas House for two terms, died Tuesday after an illness, a spokesperson for House leadership confirmed.
Howard had missed a chunk of session due to the ailment, although he returned for the final days for votes to override a slate of vetoes from Gov. Laura Kelly.
Howard first won election to the Kansas House in 2019, narrowly defeating Democrat incumbent Steve Crum in the district which covers part of Wichita s south side. He won a second term last year, again defeating Crum by a wider margin.

I m saddened of the passing of my friend and legislative neighbor, Rep. Ron Howard, Rep. Nick Hoheisel said on Twitter. Ron cared about his district deeply, fighting for South Wichita every day. May God comfort his wife Terri, and the rest of the Howard family. South Wichita will miss you, my friend.
Howard returned to the Legislature in the final days of the session to override Gov. Laura Kelly s tax plan after being absent for medical reasons all session.
