EAST ELLIJAY, Ga. – In March 2021, the latest revisions to Board Policy IDE(3) were made for Competitive Interscholastic Activities. This month, Band Director David Wiebers submitted a request to allow a waiver to the policy for the band.
That waiver would allow a small number of students in the 8th grade to march with the high school band. Wiebers told the board that the waiver would help the band as it has had middle schoolers march before. With stated benefits to the students, retention rate, the high school band, and the middle school band, the request would allow the continuation of the practice in spite of the policy.

EAST ELLIJAY, Ga. – After last months approvals for administration in the schools, the Board of Education returned to finalize school personnel for the coming 2021-22 school year during the BOE meeting near the end of February.
During the meeting the board individually voted for five staff members individually, each board member abstained from one vote on the five due to being a relative. After this, the board voted for each school individually for their staff as recommended by the school’s Principal including Clear Creek Elementary School, Ellijay Elementary School, Mountain View Elementary, Clear Creek Middle School, and Gilmer High School.

At this month’s regular meeting, the Board of Trustees for Johnson County School District #1 considered and approved the district’s employment recommendations as presented to them.
Approved were the resignation of Morgan Kremers as assistant volleyball coach at Clear Creek Middle School, effective immediately.
The retirement of a number of teachers from various schools in the district were also approved for John Hepp, Ron Chapin, Clark Chesbro, and Shelley Armstrong that will take effect at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
A salary advancement for Aaron Mines was also approved, moving from a BA+30 to MA.
