Cherry Capital Airport Approved To Transition From Airport Commission To Airport Authority

9 & 10 News July 20, 2021 The Grand Traverse County Board unanimously approved the move Tuesday night in their July meeting. Leelanau and Grand Traverse County had oversight of the airport as a commission. The application to operate under an authority is now being sent to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Leelanau County Chairman says they’ve been working to develop future steps for the airport. He says he expects the FAA to also approve the plan. “Once they approve it then it would come back and we would decommission the commission and set up the authority, which we’ve already set up the people who will be in it, and we’ve been going to the meetings to find out how the airport works so that we could we able to make, ya know, educated decisions,” said William J. Bunek, Chairman of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners.

Lawsuit Filed Over Gun In Grand Traverse Commission Board Meeting

April 13, 2021 The displaying of a rifle while on-screen of a Grand Traverse County Commission meeting has garnered a federal lawsuit against the county and a sitting commissioner. Attorney Blake Ringsmuth represents Patricia Macintosh, who in January asked commissioners during a virtual meeting to publicly condemn the attack on the U.S. Capitol. “Honestly, we’d be here if it was a gun, a knife, or some other threatening behavior,” Ringsmuth says. “It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with what we want to protect about our country. I can’t think of anything better than the First Amendment.”
