GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – Volunteers took more than 10,000 pounds of trash from the woods near Boardman River in Grand Traverse County over the weekend.
The coalition of volunteers on site on Saturday, April 17 included the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department, Traverse Area Paddle Club, Youthwork, Grand Traverse Conservation District, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Trout Unlimited, Brook Trout Coalition and Audubon of Traverse City.
Road rage between neighbors ends with Michigan man being stabbed multiple times

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – A road rage incident between neighbors in Grand Traverse County ended with one man being stabbed multiple times.
According to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred in Garfield Township at 3:54 p.m. on Tuesday when a 24-year-old Garfield Township man and a friend were driving past the victim’s residence where a verbal interaction took place.
The victim, a 30-year-old Garfield Township then began following the suspect in his vehicle, police said. The suspect then exited his vehicle at a stop sign and approached the victim who was sitting in his car with the window down.

52 Body Cams Coming to the Dept. in May

E3 Council Member and Traverse City Business Owner Tyasha Harrison says “It’s been a long time coming.” She says, “There were some people that didn’t feel the need to have cameras because there hasn’t been any issues so far… We definitely want to have a solution before we have a problem.”

On Wednesday, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department held their annual awards ceremony.
The ceremony took place virtually this year and honored a list of officers and citizens for their efforts in 2020.
Eight separate Lifesaving Awards were given to officers in the sheriff’s department as well as one Citizen’s Lifesaving Award given to Nurse Kacie Cleary.
Deputy Matt Mckinley earned the Law Enforcement Division Employee of the Year Award.
“It’s my pleasure to award the 2020 Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Employee of the Year Award to Deputy Matt Mckinely,” said Sheriff Tom Bensley.
