Messenger KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: The Health, Social and Labor Affairs Committee had a meeting with Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr Mustafa Reda and other senior officials in the ministry on Thursday. Chairman of the committee MP Saadoun Hammad said they discussed the proposal to amend law number 8/ 1969 on the prevention of infectious diseases, recent steps taken in the fight against coronavirus, and alleged shortage of Pfizer vaccine. Hammad revealed the committee asked the officials if the recent decisions are based on certain studies. The committee told the officials that the most important step now is to control Kuwait International Airport.

Latvian Covid-19 death rate 32% higher than EU average

(Latvian Public Broadcasting) In Latvia, the number of deaths of Covid-19 in 14 days per one million inhabitants is currently 32% higher than the average in Europe,  according to the Ministry of Health s regulations for the government February 4. At present, in Latvia Covid-19, the cumulative number of 14-day deaths per million inhabitants is 136.4, while in Europe this figure is 103.1. According to data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center reported Wednesday, the number of Covid-19 cases registered in Latvia has reached 68,658, but the number of dead Covid-19 patients reached 1,250, representing 1.82% of all infected patients. Meanwhile, in neighboring Estonia, according to official data, a total of 46,334 Covid-19 cases have been detected since the beginning of the pandemic, while the number of deaths is 433, representing 0.93% of all infected, or 0.89 percentage points less than in Latvia.

Infection with Covid-19 has been detected in a cat for first time in Latvia RIGA, Feb 2 (LETA) - Covid-19 infection was detected in a cat for the first time in Latvia, moreover, coronavirus antibodies were found in several more cats, Uga Dumpis, the chief infectologist of the Ministry of Health, revealed at a meeting of the Saeima Social and Labor Affairs Committee on Tuesday. He noted that Latvia is the first country in this part of Europe to detect a cat to be infected with Covid-19. The cat has already left for Estonia, Dumpis said, adding that it had all happened recently. The infectologist said that the samples collected from cat had been tested on January 31. In total, samples were collected from 240 cats, some of which were pets from Covid-19 positive households.
