A study of the history of Pakistani cinema, over the last few decades, shows that enthusiastic talent in all its many creative arenas always kept the industry buoyant. Pre-partition Lahore contributed substantially to the film industry, which had mushroomed in Bombay, by providing talent including actors, writers, musicians, singers and poets etc. Lahore was also home to a film industry that was making feature films but, unfortunately, most studios were burnt down during the partition riots.
During the decade that followed, the film industry struggled significantly but managed to survive with zealots like Noor Jehan, Khawaja Khurshid Anwar, and a host of film talent who managed to keep the “show going on”. These veterans believed and were convinced that film is an art form which represents a country, its people, literature and history and hence, it should not be allowed to perish and vandalise.
