Usman Dar holds meeting with country head UNDP

Daily Times   ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs Usman Dar on Thursday held a meeting with the country head of UNDP Pakistan Knut Ostby regarding the Kamyab Jawan programme. The SAPM expressed his gratitude for the technical and financial support provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the preparation of the National Youth Development Framework (NYDF) as all the initiatives of the Kamyab Jawan programme are designed on the basis of 3 Es (Employment, Education and Engagement) conceptualized in the framework, a news release said. He said that on the core concept of 3 Es, Kamyab Jawan Programme has a business Loan Scheme of Rs.100 billion, a Rs.10 billion Skills Scholarship programme, and five new initiatives of Rs.5 billion focusing on youth engagement to be executed in collaboration with Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

Lockdowns rendered 20 7m workers jobless - Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: The spread of Covid-19 has severely affected employment conditions in the country and the closure of economic activities due to imposition of lockdowns has rendered an estimated 20.71 million workers jobless. According to the Economic Survey 2020-21, prior to Covid-19, the working population was 55.7 million. During the pandemic, this number declined to 35.04 million which indicates that 20.71 million people either lost their jobs or were not able to work. Apart from this grave impact on the job market within the country, overseas employment has also decreased by more than half. During 2020, 224,705 people were registered for overseas employment as compared to 625,203 registered during 2019 showing a decrease of 400,498 jobs, says the Economic Survey quoting statics of Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Pakistanis.

The youth led delegation with gender equality included participants from all federating units of the country. Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Dar said that over 60 percent of Pakistan’s population is youth whose participation in the policy making is essential. He further said that for inclusion of the youth in policy making, the present government formed National Youth Council (NYC) for getting valuable input from talented young people.
