Earlier, the economic decision-making body had deferred the matter in its meeting held on March 31 due to the observations made by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Now, the commerce ministry has requested the ECC to take up the matter again in its meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

Chaired by the prime minister, it may co-opt local and overseas Pakistani experts, women and young entrepreneurs on sectoral issues. Additional representatives from private and public sectors will be invited to the NEDB on agenda basis, according to Pakistani media reports. Private sector representatives to be invited on agenda basis include those from Suraj Cotton Mills, Lahore; Sadaqat Textiles, Faisalabad; Style Textile, Lahore; Bykea, Karachi; and Nova Leathers.

According to the statement, the board will monitor government policies to boost exports. It will provide strategic guidance to increase competitiveness in exports, review trade policy implementation and progress, it added. Members of the private sector have also been included in the board as well as its Terms of Reference (ToRs) have also been issued.
