Holli Henry under a trailered boat
As wake boat sales increased 20 percent and fishing and pontoon boat sales increased 12 percent in 2020 throughout the U.S., according to The National Marine Manufacturers Association in January, so have trailer accidents, according to Holli Henry from El Cajon. Everyone is trailering more than ever, and people should be careful not just for the vessels they re towing, but for the others and their families on the road.
Holli Henry and her husband Royce Henry manage Henry s Trailer Repair and Mobile Service, about three miles east of the I-8 and El Cajon Blvd. exit. I spoke to Holli on May 10.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Boat sales surged across the country in 2020 as the pandemic drove people to spend more time outdoors, and that trend seems to have sailed straight into 2021.
“It has not slowed at all we,” said Emmet Stovall, owner of Marine Warehouse Center. “Even December, January, February, our slow months, we were still as busy as we were late summer and early fall.”
Sales of boats and marine products increased almost 10% in 2020 from the prior year, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association. That jump marked a 13-year-high.

Today in ultra-billionaire news, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has purchased a modest 100-foot schooner as he looks forward to a quieter life and hours of reflection on the open seas … LOL, just kidding.
The world’s richest man is reportedly buying a boat, though that word feels inappropriately sensible for the monstrosity going to Captain Bezos: a 417-foot superyacht that’s so massive it has its own “support yacht” with a helipad, according to Bloomberg. The estimated cost, not including the boat’s support boat, is $500 million.
The luxury yacht’s Dutch manufacturer, Oceanco, hasn’t released many details about the vessel, called Project 721. The company didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Preliminary data from to Statistical Surveys, a Michigan firm that tracks new-boat registrations, continued to reflect a near-crazed demand for product.
With 31 states reporting, approximately 63 percent of the U.S. boating market, registrations in March were up 55 percent in the main powerboat categories and 34 percent on a year-over-year basis in those segments.
While comparisons to March 2020 may be skewed due to last year’s Covid-related shutdowns and work-from-home orders, they reflect a pattern seen during the last several months, with no signs of abating.
Total industry registrations were up 44 percent YOY with 46,407 boats sold. For the month, registrations for all categories came in at 22,238, a 67 percent spike from the same period last year.
