‘Impact likely to escalate’
In his opening statement, Dr Al Nuaimi said: “The impacts of climate change are already evident and are likely to escalate. Enhancing the adaptive capacity of communities, economies, and ecosystems is essential to protect the gains of growth, and pave the way for continued development. Adaptation action also yields valuable co-benefits for climate mitigation, and human health and welfare.”
He added: “Characterized by a desert climate, our region is especially vulnerable to climate impacts. True to our spirit of innovation, we in the UAE are taking strong steps to adapt to the risks posed by climate change, and we hope to share our experience with other countries.”
DUBAI, 21st January, 2021 (WAM) The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has announced the launch of the UAE Climate Change Research Network (CCRN) that will bring together a group of committed scientists and researchers to advance climate data collection and policy-relevant research on climate change impacts and adaptation.

The UAE has set out targets to limit greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade as part of its commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The country aims to cut emissions by nearly a quarter by 2030 compared to “business as usual”, which does not take into account the latest commitments.
Increases in clean power capacity, especially through solar and nuclear energy, are central to the efforts to battle climate change.
The measures are detailed in the UAE’s second Nationally Determined Contribution, a document just submitted to the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as part of the country’s Paris Agreement commitments.
