USDEC picks CEO after Vilsack tapped for Ag Secretary
With Tom Vilsack tapped by President-elect Joe Biden to be the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Krysta Harden has been chosen to take his place as CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council, the group announced.
Harden served as Deputy Agriculture Secretary from 2013 to 2016 and currently holds the role of chief operating officer at USDEC. Vilsack previously served as Agriculture Secretary for eight years during President Barack Obama’s administration.
Analysis predicts soaring feed costs
The U.S. animal protein sector will face a 12 percent increase in feed costs in 2021, marking the highest year-over-year inflation since 2011, according to CoBank s Knowledge Exchange division.

(The Center Square) Meat industry groups are urging Gov. J.B. Pritzker to prioritize the COVID-19 vaccination for the men and women who work in the meat and poultry industry.
Nationally, nearly 50,000 meatpacking employees have tested positive for the coronavirus, and at least 253 have died.
The first wave will include health care personnel and residents of long-term care facilities. Essential workers will be considered next, but with limited vaccine doses and a lot of workers considered essential, the jockeying is underway on which ones should go to the front of the line.

President-elect Joe Biden has made it clear from day one he intends to lead with action on the climate. And now he’s filling his climate team with some familiar faces and some new ones that could bring a change to agriculture.
“We have a good idea of the vision President-elect Biden is trying to accomplish. And as it relates to agriculture it is positive,” says Ethan Lane, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s vice president of government affairs. The concern comes in when the progressive left of the party tries to take actions further.
