The Wareham Fire District was recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for their excellent water service and eco-friendly efforts.
“The Baker-Polito Administration is proud to recognize our dedicated drinking water providers during National Drinking Water Week,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides. “Public water suppliers in Massachusetts, especially during the pandemic, showed great dedication and commitment to ensuring our residents have consistent access to safe, clean, healthy drinking water.
Wareham was recognized for its energy conservation.
Using a grant from MassDEP, the district installed a municipally-owned 81 kilowatt system on the roof of the new Maple Springs Water Purification Plant.
Water Professionals Deserve Your Appreciation

History records that comedian Rodney Dangerfield’s most famous line was “I don’t get no respect. No respect at all.”
There are many days and nights when the approximately 300,000 water professionals feel exactly the same way. Even though the work they do is perhaps the most essential for our very survival.
That is why National Drinking Water Week was founded roughly 40 years ago by President Ronald Reagan. The first week of May celebrates the work of all water professionals and it comes at a time when 341 billion gallons of fresh water is used daily in America, much of it treated and delivered by the more than 54,000 community water systems.
McDONOUGH â At a time when the industry was recognizing National Drinking Water Week (May 2-8) and Water Professionals Appreciation Day in Georgia (May 3), the Henry County Water Authority was also celebrating four major industry awards.
The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) announced the awards recently during its Spring Conference, which is being held virtually through a series of events that conclude on May 20.
From the operations at the treatment facilities to the public education in the community, the HCWA has received GAWP awards for outstanding performances this past year. Those accolades included:

Virtual Trail Trek accepting registrations
Great Works Regional Land Trust is accepting registrations for its Virtual Trail Trek fundraiser in June, held in conjunction with the celebration of National Trails Day.
The Virtual Trail Trek 5k/10k/13-mile outing will be held at GWRLT preserves from June 4-13, featuring more than 18 public preserves and nearly 30 miles of trails, to provide an opportunity to explore the space while raising money to maintain the land.
The entry fee is $35 per participant and proceeds will go toward GWRLT’s conservation and environmental outreach efforts. All mileage and time entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. June 13. Information to submit results will be provided upon registration. All participants will receive limited edition GWRLT swag, which you can see at conceptdesignstudios.com/custom-printed-face-buffs.

BERNARDSTON The Bernardston Fire and Water District was among four town water facilities across the state to receive an Energy Conservation Award from the state Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) last week.
