In observance of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, one Christian organization is raising awareness throughout April after initiating its Prevention with Purpose campaign.
Sharen Ford, director of foster care and adoption for Focus on the Family told the Christian Post on Wednesday that it s crucial for people to actively look and listen for signs of abuse or neglect. She noted that the campaign theme focuses on prevention - a key element that can save lives. Our Prevention with Purpose campaign is about helping everyone to know that their eyes and ears matter in the life of a child, Ford said. If you see something that is suspicious, please call and report it. If you hear something that concerns you, a conversation that young children are having or older children and it sounds suspicious, please pick up the phone and report it.

COBDEN (WSIL) Dozens of kids planted Pinwheels Friday morning at the Elementary School in Cobden, taking part in National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
The pinwheel was adopted as the national symbol for prevention against child abuse and neglect. It represents the hope for every child to be raised in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment.
Arrowleaf Marketing Director Mallory Hartman says, it is also a call to action in speaking out against child abuse and neglect. We all play a part in helping to secure those safe environments for children, says Mallory. No matter what your age, you still can help other children that may be experiencing abuse or different situations like that.
Special to the Bulletin
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month; CASA in the Heart of Texas is raising awareness of the need for more dedicated members of the community to step up and become Court Appointed Special Advocates and help end child abuse and neglect through supporting children and their families.
Court Appointed Special Advocates are everyday people from all walks of life who are recruited and specially trained to advocate for children in foster care and provide a consistent, reliable adult presence for them during a very difficult time in their lives. The fact that they give of their time and represent an objective, community viewpoint is one of the things that makes their input so valuable.
COPPERAS COVE âThe Excel Club of Copperas Cove High School hosted a car, truck and motorcycle show in support of child abuse prevention, at the Cove Terrace Shopping Center in Copperas Cove on Saturday.
The show is in acknowledgement of April as the National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and all proceeds raised from the registration fees will support local child abuse prevention efforts.
Charles Lyons, the advisor of the Copperas Cove High School Excel Club, said the show was the selected format for the fundraiser because of his passion for cars and peopleâs pandemic fatigue.
âWe are at a stage where it seems like people are trying to get back to normal life,â Lyons said. âOne of the ways of doing that is to do some events where people can start interacting together and the best way is to do it outdoors.â

Brazos County saw nearly 300 confirmed cases of child abuse just last year, and child advocacy groups want the community to be the change in these childrenâs lives.
At Prosperity Bank in Bryan, 663 pinwheels are currently on display, thanks to Scottyâs House child advocacy center. The pinwheels represent the number of confirmed child abuse cases across the Brazos Valley region for the year 2020.
According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services [DFPS], approximately 286 of those cases come from just the Bryan-College Station area.
