Two cheers for the British Wirtschaftswunder. It may not be an economic miracle, but the accelerating recovery now under way is a breathtaking turn of fortunes for the much denigrated Brexit economy.
The UK will probably regain pre-COVID levels of output before the eurozone, perhaps by Christmas. By the end of next year it may even have recouped the entire cross-Channel gap in growth since the referendum.

Birdwatch Ireland has warned the government and wind farm developers of the risk of “creating a biodiversity crisis” in its approach to renewable energy.

The Times Ireland reports today, Birdwatch Ireland s assistant head of advocacy Oonagh Duggan said the renewable energy revolution in Ireland won’t be sustainable if it is at the expense of biodiversity.
At the annual Wind Energy Ireland conference, Duggan said Birdwatch Ireland recognises that climate breakdown is critical, and that Ireland must meet its 2030 targets.

Netflix’s controversial film takes aim at fishing as a whole, but also accuses the MSC of inadequacy on bycatch and overfishing
The global seafood business has come under intense scrutiny over the past few weeks since the release of Netflix’s Seaspiracy documentary. The film, produced by the same people who made Cowspiracy, portrayed an out-of-control industry that’s killing marine life and the planet through a combination of overfishing, plastic pollution and bycatch.
Its criticism extended to the NGOs who push the industry to become more sustainable in their use of the oceans’ natural resources, with the MSC in particular coming under fire over its efficacy and structure.
