FG, resident doctors sign agreement after 7-hour long negotiation On By Victor Ahiuma-Young The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Action, MoA, with the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD,  geared towards averting the planned nationwide strike of resident doctors billed to commence Thursday, April 1. The agreement was signed at midnight on Wednesday after a marathon meeting between the government team and the leadership of NARD at the office of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige. The meeting, which lasted seven hours, deliberated on the issues raised by the aggrieved doctors in their Notice of Trade Dispute including the non-payment of salaries of some house officers.

But the NEC (National Executive Committee) will convene this afternoon to review the situation,” NARD president Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi told AFP. He said the review became necessary following a meeting with government representatives on Wednesday.

NARD had threatened to commence a nationwide strike on April 1, accusing the Federal Government of reneging on the agreements it reached with the union. The doctors’ grievances include the non-payment of salaries of between three to five months to some house officers and the non-recruitment of house officers.
