Pharmacy officials say they are ready to handle the next phase of COVID-19 vaccinations now that the federal government has opened up the process to people 65 and older.
Walgreens and CVS have already been coordinating vaccination clinics at long-term care facilities.
The pharmacies will need to coordinate storage and administering the vaccines as well as discuss issues with customers who are hesitant to get inoculated.
Walgreens and CVS have administered only a fraction of the vaccine doses they've been allocated, and state officials question whether they will be able to expand their efforts anytime soon.

PORTLAND, Ore. Amid a slow COVID-19 vaccine rollout across the country, pharmacy groups are advocating for a more active role to boost vaccination numbers.
Pat Hubbell owns Brooklyn Pharmacy in SE Portland. He said information is scarce when it comes to vaccine distribution. I ve really not heard a lot of information from OHA or the powers at be, so I m still in a holding pattern, Hubbell said. I sure would like to get me and my staff vaccinated.

As President-elect Joe Biden gets ready to take office, pharmacies across the country are getting ready to put his administration s vaccine plan into action.
Pharmacies have a goal of administering 100 million COVID-19 vaccines within 100 days of Biden s administration. This sounds like a big feat, but pharmacy and drug store groups say they ve been ready for the task.
Many pharmacies have been preparing since the beginning of the pandemic for a COVID-19 vaccine rollout. And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had actually started working on a pandemic plan years ago.
