Movie theaters and concert venues will be getting some much-needed financial help as part of the new COVID-19 relief bill. The $900 billion package includes $15 billion to help keep theaters and venues afloat during the pandemic. The National Association Of Theater Owners said the money would help theaters weather this pandemic and ensure that workers have jobs waiting for them when it is safe to reopen . After months of renovations, Showbiz Cinemas opened its doors to the community on Friday, Dec. 18, showcasing its improvements and offering new entertainment for all to enjoy.
The facility opened its doors at 11 a.m. with new movie showings,14 bowling lanes, an arcade, restaurant and more.
Showbiz Cinemas began selling tickets in advance for their showings on opening day and will be selling tickets to new movies like Monster Hunter, “The Croods: A New Age” and “Fatale”.
“We’re running on a staggered schedule all the way through the day and on quite a few shows up to 8:05 p.m,” said Jeremy Devine, vice president of marketing and content for Showbiz Cinemas.
After weeks of negotiations on a stimulus bill, Congress announced a compromise on a
COVID-19 relief bill which, if passed and signed by President Trump, will provide $15 billion in financial support to movie theaters and live event venues. It could be the boost that struggling movie theaters need as many markets remain closed nearly nine months into the coronavirus pandemic, and as industry-shattering decisions push theatrical releases to streaming.
Things aren’t looking great for movie theaters as we near the one-year mark of when businesses across the U.S. we forced to close to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Many theaters and major markets remain closed, studios are delaying theatrical releases or pushing them straight to PVOD, and then there’s the big club to the face that was the recent decision by Warner Bros. to drop all of their 2021 movies on HBO Max the same day as theaters. Kimball’s Peak Three Theater earlier this year put a “Congrats Class of 2020” message on the marquee so seniors could take a picture below as a gift to the graduates who most likely wouldmiss out on the traditional graduation ceremonies because of the coronavirus.
