ISLAMABAD: Former deputy speaker National Assembly Haji Nawaz Khokhar was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Koral village on Sunday. He was 74.
Mr Khokhar was infected with Covid-19 last month. Later, his tests were negative but his lungs had been damaged.
The deceased was a well-known political figure of the federal capital.
He started his political career as the PPP general secretary in 1968 and became member of the National Assembly in 1985. He also served as federal minister for science and technology. In 1990, he became the National Assembly deputy speaker.
Mr Khokhar is survived by three sons. One of them is Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and the others are businessmen.

ISLAMABAD: Former deputy speaker of National Assembly and senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Haji Nawaz Khokhar was laid to rest on Sunday. Funeral prayers of Haji Nawaz Khokhar was offered in Rawalpindi on Sunday, attended by politicians, prominent personalities and large number of people. Haji Nawaz Khokhar passed away in Islamabad late night on Saturday (January 9) after a prolonged illness. His younger brother Imtiaz Khokhar, known as Taji Khokhar died on January 6. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived at the residence of Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar to condole with him on his father s death.
