Ten suspects charged with various offences related to discovery of 17-year-old girl s body

ALOR SETAR: The 10 suspects detained by police in relation to the discovery of the body of a 17-year-old girl in a rubber plantation in Pokok Sena on May 11 were charged at Alor Setar Magistrate s Court here Tuesday (May 25). They arrived at court at around 9.00am and at 11.30am were brought before Magistrate Nurshahida Abdul Rahim to be charged. The main suspect, 26-year-old Low Yong Peng, was charged under Section 201 of the Penal Code for disposing or hiding evidence of a crime with the intention of avoiding punishment under the law. The charge carries a maximum of seven years imprisonment or a fine, or both.

KUALA LUMPUR: A mother and daughter were each fined RM1,000 by the Selayang Magistrate’s Court here today for injuring a 16-year-old girl, last month. Magistrate Nik Mohd Fadli Nik Azlan meted out the sentence on S. G. Saroja, 53, and her daughter C. Sathiyawathy, 31, after they pleaded guilty to committing the offence. The court also ordered Saroja who is also the victim’s aunt and Sathiyawathy to serve two months in jail if they failed to pay the fine. The duo, together with another person still at large, were charged with voluntarily causing hurt on the girl at an area near Bulatan Beringin Selayang, here, at 11pm on March 1.

Police reports lodged against touts within legal fraternity, agents, says KL Bar

PETALING JAYA: Police reports have been lodged against those who illegally solicit clients at magistrates’ courts, says the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee in its efforts to eradicate touting. Several police reports have been lodged against members and agents, where we are currently following up with the Attorney General s Chambers pertaining to prosecution of criminal charges against these people, it said in a statement issued Tuesday (March 16). The KL Bar said the acts of touting, whether done by chambering students, lawyers, or agents, are against Section 15A of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and are punishable by the same provision. The KL Bar also said that its Criminal Law Practice Committee and the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) has been and is actively working with the Kuala Lumpur Courts and relevant stakeholders on eradicating touting.
