Juju Loving Ewe Textbooks: Your Explanation For Leak Is Irrational - Pratt To Publisher

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has taken the explanations given by the publisher of the controversial History textbooks with a pinch of salt. A Ghanaian local publishing house, Badu Nkansah Limited, publisher of the controversial textbooks says the books were leaked and that they intended not for them to be on the market yet since it has not fully met the assessment criteria of the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA). The books comprise History of Ghana for Basic 6 by Golden Publications which carries distasteful information about Ghana s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP, History of Ghana Textbook 3 by Badu Nkansah Publications which features “A song that shows the Ewes identity” and Golden English Basic 4 by Golden Publications which displays “Efo agress to prepare juju for the players” on page 17.

National Security must probe ethnocentric publication in history books – GNAT

+ The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is demanding National Security investigates how a controversial textbook published by Badu Nkansah Publications has the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) and ISBN seals. This move, the Association believes will help identify the lapses in the system and deal with individuals who may have reneged on their responsibilities. Badu Nkansah Publication‘s ‘History of Ghana’ textbook for Class 3 generated an uproar amongst Ghanaians for describing the Ewe ethnic group in a derogatory language. Speaking on JoyNews PM Express Tuesday, General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah said the ‘Class 3 History of Ghana’ textbook has the potentials of derailing the gains made in fostering national cohesion among all ethnic groups.

Apologise, withdraw textbooks stereotyping Ewes – Volta Regional chiefs to publishers

+ Volta Regional House of Chiefs is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the controversial textbooks said to have stereotyped Ewes in the country. According to the chiefs, the said publication is “distasteful and a disgrace to the authors and publishers”. They in a statement said: “We deem it highly reprehensible for those responsible for this offensive publication, to harbour such vile thoughts about their fellow citizens of Ghana in the twenty-first century”. Aside the withdrawal of the books, the Volta Regional chiefs are also demanding an unqualified apology from the publishers. “We therefore unreservedly condemn this singular demonstration of tribal bigotry and prejudice and call on those responsible for the offensive publication, to withdraw the same from circulation and to destroy every part of the offending material.”
