The Zachariah Godbold Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Bay Minette, welcomed Baldwin County High School students, the students family members and friends, to their April “Student Awards” Chapter meeting. The Chapter presented these outstanding students with certificates, medals, and pin proudly acknowledging their courage, dependability, honor, leadership, patriotism, service, and excellence in academics. While the goal was increased connectedness and economic prosperity, often the new highways decimated urban neighborhoods. In Savannah, I 16 and the I-16 flyover spanning West Broad Street (now Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) and Montgomery Street transformed Savannah’s westside forever; buildings were torn down, families and businesses were displaced, and the historic street grid was rerouted to support the increased number of vehicles flowing in to Savannah.
In 1967, Montgomery Street, previously two-way, was changed to one-way north bound traffic from Jones to Bay streets. In 1985, to facilitate the restoration of Franklin Square, this street was partially restored to two-way traffic from Bay to Broughton.
CASA of San Luis Obispo County advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the court system. CASA recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who advocate for this vulnerable population with the goal of ensuring that each and every child grows up in a safe, nurturing, and permanent home.
The project was led by the California State Society DAR Community Classroom Chairs. Recognizing a need to support the children that CASA serves, volunteers from all seven DAR chapters in District VII from the CSSDAR participated in the initiative.
The group, organized by Regent Leslie Lechner, assembled and donated 61 HeART kits; 41 for the elementary school program, 15 for the middle school program, and 5 for the high schoolers. The special bag kits each had age-appropriate drawing pads, construction paper, watercolor paint sets, stencils, rulers, scissors, paintbrushes, chalk, play-doh, crayons, sharpeners, glue sticks, stickers, and extras. Members of the Trumbull-Porter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and members of the Charles Merriman Society, Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) celebrated Earth Day by helping to clean up the Old Burying Ground in Watertown. They picked up the 82 wreaths from the Wreaths Across America ceremony which had been placed on the graves of veterans buried in the cemetery and collected a number of bags of trash.

After the C.A.R. members cleaned up the cemetery, they held a short meeting and discussed what Earth Day was about. Discussion was held on a variety of ways to help reduce household trash or reuse or repurpose some household items. Members also learned about Charles Merriman, the namesake of their Society. WILLIAMSBURG â The regular monthly meeting of the William Whitley Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was held on Saturday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at the Williamsburg Tourism Center.
The meeting was called to order by Regent Dianne Chambers. Officersâ and committee reports were presented. Vice Regent Carolyn Falin discussed plans to continue a project to commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation.
