As Trenton-Mercer Airport eyes expansion, residents fear impact
Trenton-Mercer Airport is planning a major expansion, but some area residents are pushing back over environmental and health concerns they fear will follow.
A two-hour public virtual hearing on June 2 starting at 7 p.m. will review a draft environmental assessment for a proposed terminal building prepared by Mercer County, which owns and operates the New Jersey airport.
The hearing begins with a presentation about the project and is expected to end with a public comment period. The assessment is a federally required step in the Trenton-Mercer Airport Master Plan, a document guiding airport development over the next 20 years.
Klamath Forest Alliance Sues USFS Over Post-Fire Tree Felling

Klamath Forest Alliance (KFA), a non-profit corporation based in California, is suing the United States Forest Service and other officials over a decision memorandum they passed which authorized “the felling of ‘danger’ trees affected by the 2020 Slater Fire along approximately 146 miles of identified travel corridors.” Scott J. Blower (Wild District Ranger), and Merv George Jr. (Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Supervisor) are also named alongside the United State Forest Service.
The decision memorandum, or DM, states that at-risk trees will be felled. It also details the area will be rehabilitated and restored through, “site-specific seeding and planting,” of various trees and plants in highly affected areas. KFA has taken issue with the fact that the Forest Service failed to publish the DM with an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) or an Environmental Assessment (EA), which the plaintiff

The Fisheries Survival Fund is disappointed in the decision issued today by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. However, we will continue to work with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and all federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as wind energy farm developers, to ensure that these new uses of our coastal waters are created in such a way that they do not devastate existing uses, which in this case is one of the most important scallop grounds on the East Coast.
