GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â As National News Literacy Week comes to an end, we wanted to share how we here at FOX 17 have been forced to pivot during this pandemic in the way we gather information and produce our newscasts to bring you fair, accurate, and trustworthy news.
Like the rest of the world back in early March of last year, we adjusted the way we operate in order to continue bringing you the news, from going live in our homes to having our anchors in the studio stand six feet apart.

News Literacy Week: Local student produces story for News 3

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - As part of National News Literacy Week, we invited Newport News Woodside High School junior Robbie Pritchett to produce a story to air on News 3.
Robbie is in the Arts and Communications Magnet Program at Woodside. He grew up watching news, and his father has worked in the media for several years, including a time with us at News 3.
Robbie s news interest grew during the 2020 election cycle. He says he visited several news sites daily. His instructor Reginald Crudup says Robbie is the editor of the schoolâs weekly television production and well known for his rigorous fact checking.

EAST LANSING, Mich. â For National News Literacy Week FOX 17 caught up with the broadcast journalism students at Michigan State University to show you how theyâve been producing their student led newscast, âFocal Pointâ remotely.
The students would normally be inside the Communication Arts and Science building working on producing 12 newscasts for the year, but with the pandemic these students had to learn how to put on a show outside the studio while continuing to tell accurate and impactful stories.
âWe had the director at home, the audio was at home, the person running the video was at home, the anchors were out in the field out on out on the street, we had live shots, and we had we had intercom communication with a remote app for your phone. News Literacy Week: Political Coverage Town Hall with Mike Dennison

HELENA â The Montana Television Network (MTN) and our parent company the E.W. Scripps Company has partnered with the News Literacy Project for National News Literacy Week.
Coinciding with the 67th Session of the Montana Legislature, MTN hosted a town hall discussion with Chief Political Reporter Mike Dennison and Montana Politics students at Carroll College. The goal of the discussion was to answer questions from students and have a conversation with them about their thoughts on political coverage, covering state government and ethical, fact-based journalism.
