It’s the end of National Nurses Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the critical medical personnel and the role they play in treating and caring for patients.
As part of the Nurse Week celebration at Pella Regional Health Center, nursing staff who have participated in the NEW (Nursing Excellence Within) Program from 2020 are honored. The NEW Program is a way to recognize and reward registered nurses within Pella Regional for their professional and personal growth and accomplishments.
The program centers on professional development, professional practice and behaviors, outcomes and community connections. There are three levels of participation, with each level requiring additional time and commitment. Examples of activities that could apply include obtaining an additional degree or certification, acting as a preceptor to students or volunteering within the community.
The public are invited to drop by and purchase to-go orders from the food trucks, which include Love & Tacos, Wings on Wheels, Greek Gals Yummies, Gwen’s Wing Snack, Joe’s Caribe, My Ohana, Curry in a Hurry, La Salsa Mexican Cuisine, Tiana’s Lunchbox, Cheesus and Gman on the Go.
The food truck schedule is available at bit.ly/2QempOgFoodTruckSchedule. An ATM will be available on site.
From noon to 3 p.m. May 7, members of Cinco Baptist Church will provide free ice cream for all attendees.
In recent weeks, county officials have hosted cookouts for employees of various county departments, such as public works.

2021 Salute To Nurses ProgramNominate a nurse
Nurses are the lifeblood of our community. Words do not begin to describe how thankful we are for their sacrifices over the past year. They should be honored. The Express-News has a program, Salute to Nurses, that has honored nurses over the years.
This year we have restructured the program to make sure that we celebrate and honor your humble health warriors in the best way possible.
They have cared for so many of us when we were at our most vulnerable. We know there are great stories of sacrifice during the fight against COVID-19 and we are beyond grateful for the sacrifices they have made for our community. We thank you.
