Kohima/Imphal, Dec 30 : The controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which allow security forces to conduct operations anywhere and arrest anyone without any prior warrant, was promulgated in Nagaland and Manipur in view of the disturbing situations , officials said on Wednesday.
An official of the Nagaland Home Department said in Kohima that the entire Nagaland on Wednesday was declared as a disturbed area for another six months by the Union Home Ministry.

Imphal: A team of six members from the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Manipur met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and state Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday to discuss state s territorial concerns in light of the Naga Peace talks. The team of the governing Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) which heads seven Manipur-based CSOs discussed several issues with the Minister, especially the protection of territorial rights in the state.

Kohima, Dec 29 : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday filed chargesheet in Special Court in Nagaland against five cadres of Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) in an extortion case.
NIA sources said that the case was related to the recovery of around Rs 1.59 crore along with illegal arms, ammunition, explosives and incriminating documents from the residential premises of self-styled Col. Rayilung Nsarangbe of NSCN (IM) and his wife Ruth Chawang.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet against five NSCN (IM) members for alleged extortion and criminal intimidation of various companies undertaking road construction projects in Manipur.
The Isaak Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM), one of the largest Naga groups, signed a framework agreement on August 3, 2015 to end the decades-old Naga issue and is currently engaged in negotiation with the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Organisations in State wary of peace deal with NSCN (IM) that could lead to creation of territorial council
A conglomerate of civil society organisations in Manipur said on Sunday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured it that the Centre would not approve community-based autonomy in the State.
Non-Naga groups in Manipur are wary of reports that the Centre was contemplating a territorial council each in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh as a solution to the protracted Naga political issue. Such a council is believed to be an alternative to the idea of a greater Naga homeland purportedly pursued by the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland
