Five seniors at the private Quarry Lane School in Dublin â Prisha Bhadra, Geetika Gopidas, Minju Lee, Kanchan Naik, and Saahil Sachdeva â have been named National Merit Scholarship finalists for 2021.
About 15,000 finalists nationwide are eligible for about 7,500 scholarships worth about $30 million offered by the nonprofit National Merit Scholarship Corporation and its business and academic partners. Scholarship winners will be announced this spring.
Finalists represent about 1% of the more than 1.5 million juniors who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. After qualifying as a semifinalist, based on their test scores, students must also perform well on the Scholastic Aptitude Test, submit an essay, and be recommended by someone at their high school.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - (News Release) Frenship ISD is proud to announce Frenship High School senior Alejandro Gutierrez Fiol has advanced as a finalist for the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Fiol is one of only 15,000 high school students nationwide to be selected for the honor.
During this highly competitive process, more than 1.5 million high school students took the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test to become eligible for the program. Fiol was one of the highest-scoring entrants in Texas earning him a spot as a semi-finalist and now a finalist.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced the names of the 15,000 finalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Newton High School had two semifinalists, Jakob Graber and Elise Jantz. More than 1.5 million juniors entered the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
According to the National Merit website, to become a finalist, the semifinalist and a high school official had to submit an application with information on their academic records, honors and awards received. The student also wrote an essay. The National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from the finalists based on their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in college studies.
