Just 14.3% of registered voters cast a ballot during the nine days of early voting. The 25,684 votes cast during the early voting period that ended Tuesday was the second most in a recent odd-numbered May election, however it was well shy of the 41,161 votes cast in Lubbock s 2009 alcohol election, which is the closest comparison because it s a high-profile vote during a down year.  A total of 50,811 votes were cast in that 2009 alcohol election, and the current trend suggests not that many people will vote on the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance. There are 179,139 registered voters in Lubbock County. During early voting, 23,287 were cast for the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance. Most of the votes, 61.8%, came from voters in Lubbock s Districts 4 and 5.
