May sessions highlight the importance of rejecting mental health stigmas
May is mental health awareness month and Wellness in the Woods is hosting virtual sessions on rejecting stigmas on mental health diagnoses, chemical health, different nationalities and the LGBTQ community. 9:30 am, May 5, 2021 ×
Through a peer network open to the community, Wellness in the Woods staff members are having sessions focused on the theme, “It’s my story. No more secrets. No more shame” to highlight stigmas surrounding mental health.

People might keep a mental health diagnosis or struggle hidden, not know about the resources available, decide to self-medicate or ‘tough it out’ on their own. But each of these are impacted by the stigmas surrounding mental health.
Nearly one in five older adults say their mental health has gotten worse since the pandemic began in March 2020, and an equal percentage say their sleep has suffered in that time too. More than one in four say they re more anxious or worried than before the COVID-19 era, according to a new poll of people age 50 to 80. But the poll also reveals hopeful signs that many older adults are showing long-term resilience.
