KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 Former education minister Maszlee Malik has urged the Education Ministry to address the trust deficit among the rakyat over its ability to handle the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the recent decision by the ministry to reopen all schools nationwide on September 1 was universal for all schools, without taking into account scientific data and the differences in needs between urban, rural, and interior schools.

Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: It has been more than a year since home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) was implemented and now the system is becoming more acceptable by all quarters with improvements continuously made to ensure its effectiveness. Now in its second year of implementation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more people have realised that PdPR is not only done online, but also offline, such as by providing modules according to the students’ needs and abilities. President of the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), Aminuddin Awang said improvements were always made by teachers based on their experience in implementing PdPR since last year.

Schools must have strict SOP

PETALING JAYA: Stakeholders want strategies and strict standard operating procedures in place before the government reopens schools this September. Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim said it was vital that the SOP be stringent and continually adhered to. “We must not let our guard down at any point in time,” she said. Melaka Action Group for Parents in Education chairman Mak Chee Kin said the Education Ministry must have an action plan ready in case not all teachers were immunised by September. Although the escalating number of daily cases was scary, he said the prolonged school closure had left a negative impact on students.
