• Electricity workers threaten strike over planned sale of TCN
The Federal Government has assured prospective power investors that the five National Integrated Power Plants (NIPPs) put up for sale will go on as planned.
Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), the agency overseeing the privatisation of the five plants, Mr. Alex A. Okoh, told reporters in Abuja, yesterday, that the move was in line with the bureau’s 2021 work plan as approved by the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) and would be strictly adhered to.
The plants are: Benin Generation Company Limited at Ihovba, Edo State; Calabar Generation Company Limited, Cross River State; Geregu Generation Company Limited, Kogi State; Olorunsogo Generation Company Limited, Ogun State; and Omotosho Generation Company Limited, Ondo State.
Total blackout, airport shutdown loom as Kaduna workers begin strike
Workers in the electricity, aviation and other strategic sectors have vowed to shut down the economy of Kaduna State.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state had earlier announced its plan to embark on a strike to protest against mass disengagement of workers and other alleged anti-labour moves by the state government.
“In line with NLC directives on shut down of activities in Kaduna, you are hereby directed to ensure TOTAL BLACK OUT in Kaduna by 00 hours on Saturday 15th May, 2021,” the General Secretary of NUEE, Joe Ajaero, said in a circular obtained by PREMIUM TIMES.
The epileptic power supply in the country may worsen if a threat by electricity workers to withdraw their services over insecurity in the country is carried out.
In a statement to mark Workers’ Day in Abuja, General Secretary of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Joe Ajaero, lamented rising death of members of the union in the course of doing their work.
“The safety of our workers who carry out maintenance works and man the stations in these restive areas is seriously threatened as some run into dens of bandits and kidnappers while navigating the bushes to repair and maintain faulty lines.
