A double post-graduate science degree holder, Shivanand K., who had won the election to Aranthodu Gram Panchayat in Sullia taluk, Dakshina Kannada, five years ago and also served as gram panchayat vice-president once, has won for the second time from the gram panchayat.
Mr. Shivanand obtained his M.Tech in Materials Engineering from the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, and M.Sc in Materials Science from Mangalore University more than one-and-half-decades ago. He later became a full-time agriculturist.

Durgapur has launched a fundraising campaign to help students of poor economic background to continue with their online classes as the institute has gone completely online for the 2020-2021 semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said.
A statement by the institute said on Saturday this decision (completely online) has posed a great challenge to the current batch of young students, many of whom come from poor economic backgrounds, and cannot afford to buy laptops/ smartphones and avail net connectivity.

Soma Mondal× Soma Mondal has taken over as first-ever woman head of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Before taking over as Chairperson of steel CPSU on Thursday, she was the company’s Director (Commercial).
“Our immediate focus is to improve the top-line and the bottom-line of the company. We are charting out all strategies to improve value for all our stakeholders and make it structurally stronger,” she said after assuming charge. Further, she mentioned that SAIL is a colossal organization, with multi-location production units & mines, wide-ranging product basket and diverse workforce. “People are its greatest strength and with synergized efforts of the entire Team SAIL, we will strive to attain the higher summit,” she asserted.
