India News: NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will no more absorb the officials who come on deputation from other organizations.
The switch from cash to FASTags, made mandatory by the Union ministry of road and transport (MoRTH) from Monday midnight, held up thousands of exasperated commuters at the Kherki Daula toll plaza for the third successive day on Thursday. Despite more than 80% vehicles now under the FASTag ambit, technical glitches and operational hazards have reduced them to a snails pace.
Data sourced from technology startup Bulleye Technologies, which tracks traffic flow at over over 400 toll plazas across the country, showed that at 7 pm on Thursday, the waiting time at Aliyapur toll plaza in Kanpur Nagar was 27 minutes.
While the situation was not as bad across several other toll plazas, it still added up to 9-10 minutes, something that FASTags that are now mandatory were supposed to eliminate. For traffic heading towards Gurgaon from Jaipur, the waiting time at the Kheri Dahula toll plaza was over nine minutes.
Similarly, at Vadodara toll plaza in Gujarat, the waiting time was over 10 minutes, while it was just under nine minutes at the Gegal toll plaza in Ajmer.
