OTTAWA, ON, April 29, 2021 /CNW/ - As we continue to roll out COVID-19 vaccines across the country, the Government of Canada is committed to addressing and reducing barriers to vaccination.
Today, during National Immunization Awareness Week, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, announced an investment of $2.25 million through the Immunization Partnership Fund (IPF) for two projects to support vaccination efforts. These projects will support vaccine uptake by ensuring Canadians have access to credible information on vaccination, as well as equipping healthcare providers and Canadians with proven strategies to manage pain and fear during vaccination.

Through the Wellness Together Canada online portal, people of all ages across the country can access immediate, free and confidential mental health and substance use supports, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Last week, I donned a mask, and then another one, and then a face shield, and I walked into another building in this county for the first time in 407 days.
I told the nurse who was administering my first dose of COVID-19 vaccine that I might cry, and because I am hilarious, added that it wasn’t necessarily a side effect of the shot. But in all honesty, it really was – not for the needle part, because like many others I didn’t feel a thing – but for the euphoria in being a part of this particular time in history when a vaccination is available to help us stare down this pandemic, and in being a part of the global collective, co-operative effort to keep others safe.

This National Immunization Awareness Week (NIAW), I have been reflecting on importance of vaccines in protecting our health and wellbeing. During COVID-19, this year s theme is particularly poignant; Vaccines bring us closer, highlights how vaccinations can connect us to the people and things we miss most and to a healthier future. Several safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines are currently being rolled out across Canada and, along with maintaining other necessary public health measures and individual protective practices, vaccines are a vital tool to help lead us out
