The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics of the Yaba College of Technology, has complained about the illegal manner at which teaching staff of the polytechnic are taking over some positions meant for non-teaching staff.
Yabatech-SSANIP in a communiqué, threatened to go on strike if the situation was not rectified by the rector within two weeks.
The workers, who held a congress on campus on last week, listed the positions for which their members have been denied to include the Director, CITM, the Director, Works and Services, the Director, Physical Planning Unit, the Director, Consult and the Head of Fire Services.

Kano Poly partners BUK to run six new degree courses

Kano State Polytechnic says it is collaborating with the Bayero University, Kano, BUK to introduce six new Bachelor of Technology, (B. Tech) degree courses.
The Rector, Dr Kabir Bello Dungurawa disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in the state over the weekend.
Dr. Dungurawa said it had approached the University to seek affiliation to run the courses namely Automobile Tech, Building Tech, Electrical and Electronics, Metalwork Tech, Woodwork Tech and drafting Technology.
The Rector also said currently the institution is awaiting accreditation of 49 of it courses by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.
(a) National Skills Gap Survey
The National Skills Council (NSC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in conjunction with other relevant State vocation agencies should work together to conduct a national skills gap survey (this is currently ongoing), to identify specific skill gaps across the country. This survey will be carried out on a State-based basis in order to capture the exact needs and skills shortages, with the aim of designing and promoting demand-based training across the country.
(b) National Skills Database

A National Skills Database should be set up – to capture TVET skills gaps and all other relevant information acquired during the national skills survey. In addition, the database should be repository for the number of TVET students trained and an inventory for matching TVET graduates with specific industries across the states.

The workers, who held a congress on campus on Thursday, listed the positions for which their members have been denied to include the Director, CITM, the Director, Works and Services, the Director, Physical Planning Unit, the Director, Consult and the Head of Fire Services.
