NUML academic council meets

Islamabad : National University of Modern Languages (NUML) here on Tuesday in its 19th meeting of Academic Council, deliberated the issues pertaining to examination and curriculum.
The Academic Council meeting was chaired by the Rector NUML Major General (r) Muhammad Jaffar HI(M) while Director General NUML/Pro-Rector Resources and Planning Brig Muhammad Badr Malik, Pro-Rector Academics Dr. Safeer Awan, Pro-Rector Research Dr. M. Zubair Iqbal, Registrar, Directors, Deans, Heads of Departments and Regional Directors attended the meeting.
Yemeni ambassador visits NUML

Islamabad:Yemeni Ambassador Mohammad Motahar Alashabi visited the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) here on Monday and met NUML Rector Major General (r) Muhammad Jaffar in his office.
The rector briefed the visitor about the university and said the university was teaching 26 regional and international languages and was the only university of its kind in the country.
He said besides languages, the NUML had also four other faculties e.g. Social Sciences, Engineering, English, and Management Sciences. The rector said as Arabic was the language of the Holy Quran, the majority of Pakistanis were keen to learn the Arabic language.He said the Arabic language department at the NUML was playing a pivotal role in promoting the Arabic language and culture.
Japan confers decoration upon NUML lecturer

Islamabad : The Government of Japan has conferred the 2020 Autumn Imperial Decorations, “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays” upon Zafar Mahmood, visiting Professor at the Department of Japanese Language, National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad, in recognition of his significant contribution towards the promotion of Japanese language in Pakistan and strengthening friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan.
Matsuda Kuninori, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, on behalf of the Government of Japan, on February 9, conferred the imperial decoration ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays’ upon Zafar Mahmood.
Time to activate provincial HECs

In view of some recent decisions and policies of the HEC, and keeping in mind the post-18th Amendment educational scene in the country, perhaps it is the right time to start devolving higher education management to provinces and activate provincial HECs. This suggestion may shock some well-wishers of higher education in Pakistan.
If you look at the broader picture, it will make perfect sense. Twenty years ago, when the government of General Musharraf formed a committee to transform the erstwhile University Grants Commission (UGC) into the Higher Education Commission, technocrats such as Shams Lakha and Dr Atta-ur-Rahman sprang into action. They were amply supported by international donors including the World Bank. Throughout the nine years of Gen Musharraf’s dictatorship, the HEC was projected as a success story.
