THE long-running infighting within the ruling All Basotho Convention (ABC) finally reached its zenith this week with deputy leader, Professor Nqosa Mahao, breaking away to form a new party called the Basotho Action Party.
Prof Mahao yesterday confirmed the formation of the new party in an interview with the
Lesotho Times. He said the new party had been tentatively named Basotho Action Party.
He said he and other unnamed ABC legislators had on Tuesday decided to form a new party because they were “tired of the incessant infighting in the ABC”.
Building on a strong foundation

Maseru, Lesotho - After barely a year in office, the Lesotho prime minister s future hung in the balance Wednesday after an overnight split of his ruling party risked upsetting the parliamentary majority he needs to stay in power.
Moeketsi Majoro took power in May last year following the dramatic departure of his predecessor Thomas Thabane, who resigned amid allegations that he conspired to murder his wife in 2017.
A cabinet minister and deputy leader of the ruling All Basotho Convention (ABC) Nqosa Mahao, announced on Wednesday that a formal and final decision to form a new party was reached Tuesday night.
Pension Law studies at NUL
MASERU-THE National University of Lesotho (NUL) is offering a new academic programme called Certificate in Pension Law.
The programme will be sponsored by insurance giants Metropolitan Lesotho.
The Metropolitan Research Chair was established in November 2020 as a partnership between the university and the Metropolitan Lesotho to promote scholarship that is relevant to the pension and insurance industry in Lesotho.
The university will offer professional development programmes and qualifications for the pension fund industry.
It will also organize annual lectures and seminars to debate issues affecting the pension and insurance industry.
Speaking at the launch last Thursday, Metropolitan Managing Director, Mamello Phomane, said it has always been their wish to take the lead in influencing all things financial and all things insurance.
