Tariah Hyland learned about slavery and Black civil rights icons like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks during her 12 years in Delaware public schools.
“And then if we’re lucky, Malcolm X,’’ Hyland told WHYY News. “Even then we still aren’t really taught the truth about their work and what they fought for. It’s almost like watered down and diluted knowledge about these very powerful leaders.”
So Hyland, a senior at St. Georges Technical High School who co-founded the Delaware Black Student Coalition, jumped at the chance to help make Black history part of the mandatory curriculum in K-12 schools, rather than merely an afterthought or part of February’s Black History Month lessons.

Abducted students: Allow more time for negotiation, parents plead with bandits

The National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria, NAPTAN, has appealed to the bandits who abducted some students of Greenfield University, Kaduna State to allow more time for negotiation that will lead to the peaceful resolution of the crisis at hand.
The National President of NAPTAN, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, who spoke in an interview with Vanguard on Tuesday, also pleaded with the bandits not to allow the faceoff between them and the Kaduna State Government push them into taking irrational action.
Danjuma also called on the bandits to fear God and not kill the innocent students.
The past year has changed the lives of nearly everyone, but it s been a roller coaster for teachers. Many classes quickly transitioned to virtual at the beginning of the pandemic, with some returning to in-person teaching while others are still operating online.
