Geneva (Switzerland), 20 February 2021 (SPS) - The National Mechanism for Human Rights Coordination on Friday organized an online seminar under the title “working with international human rights mechanisms to shoulder their responsibilities for the protection of Saharawis under occupation.” The seminar discussed possible ways to protect human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, highlighting the role of the relevant African Union mechanisms, with both parties to the conflict being member states of the Union. The speakers reviewed the importance of taking the advantage of various UN and AU mechanisms to provide a genuine protection for human rights, being systematically violated by the occupying Moroccan state.
