According to the DEA, “The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.” Locally, a drug take back event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Holzer Meigs Emergency Department, 41861 Pomeroy Pike, Pomeroy, as a collaborative effort between Holzer Health System, Meigs County Prevention Coalition and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office. In Gallia County, the drug take back event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the Holzer Center for Cancer Care parking area, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is having its 20th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.  The DEA and other law enforcement agencies will collect tablets, capsules and other prescription medication from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at sites in El Paso, no questions asked. Liquids and needles won t be accepted. Drug overdose deaths have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, the DEA reported, citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 87,200 people in the U.S. overdosed during the 12-month period ending Sept. 1, the most ever recorded in a 12-month period, the DEA said. “The latest overdose numbers are very concerning,” Kyle W. Williamson, special agent in charge of the DEA El Paso Division, said in a statement. We must work together to address this health crisis.

Portsmouth Kroger store to participate in Drug Take Back Day Staff report WESTERVILLE– Local residents can safely dispose of unused and expired medications at 12 Columbus Division Kroger stores, including the Portsmouth location, during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 24. Kroger Health will partner with local police and sheriff departments to provide drug take back locations in the parking lots of designated stores including the Portsmouth store location at 811 Gay Street, Portsmouth between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants may drop off prescription drugs by pulling into selected areas within store parking lots, handing their medications directly to an officer or deputy and driving away. Accepted items will be all unused and expired pills, liquids, gels and patches. No medications will be accepted within Kroger stores.
