National Prescription Drug Take Back Day: Sites Near Del Mar

(Renee Schiavone/Patch) DEL MAR-CARMEL VALLEY, CA If you have half-empty bottles of expired or unused prescription drugs littering your medicine cabinet, mark your calendars for Saturday. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in San Diego County, giving Del Mar and Carmel Valley residents an opportunity to dispose of medications safely before they end up in the wrong hands. The federal Drug Enforcement Administration will host the 20th event in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. All tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs will be accepted, but liquids, needles, sharps and illegal drugs won t be accepted during the event. The service is free and anonymous.

Tom O Mara, R-Big Flats, issued a reminder for residents that April 24 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Law enforcement agencies across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions will operate drop-off centers to allow for the safe and responsible disposal of unused prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Chemung County Sheriff s Office will accept unwanted prescription drugs at the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, 1001 Carl St., Elmira, and the West Elmira Fire Department, 1299 W. Water St., Elmira.
