Vietnam recorded its 43rd coronavirus death in Hanoi Monday morning, bring the fatality tally in Vietnam s latest Covid-19 wave to eight. The deceased patient is a 50-year-old man who had cirrhosis after being an alcoholic for years, according to the Ministry of Health. He had a high fever, shivers and digestive problems in mid-April. He was later found infected with the multi-drug resistant Ochrobactrum anthropi bacteria by the Hai Duong General Hospital in the eponymous northern province. He was treated with antibiotics, but his condition did not improve.

The victim, previously identified as COVID-19 patient No. 3,015, suffered from serious liver disease after years of drinking. One week before his admission to hospital, the patient had high fever, chills, yellow skin and eyes, abdominal distension, and digestive disorders.  Hai Duong General Hospital in the namesake northern province carried out a positive blood culture on the patient and gave him a five-day antibiotic therapy. But the man showed no improvement and was transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on April 25 with the diagnosis of sepsis and cirrhotic ascites.

L.T.Q., 33, underwent the caesarean section, giving birth to a girl weighing 2.6 kilograms, the hospital told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday. Hailing from northern Dien Bien Province, Q. was admitted to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on May 19 at her 35th week of pregnancy after her test results returned positive for the coronavirus on May 14.
