Covid threat looms large as more localities report cases

At least 12 people have contracted Covid-19 from recently diagnosed patients while a doctor from Hanoi tested positive in an overseas trip.
The 12 comprise eight in hotspot Vinh Phuc Province and one each in Hanoi, Hoi An Town, Dong Nai Province and Hai Duong Province.
Further tests are needed to tag them as Covid-19 patients.
The Hoi An victim, 27, is the wife of patient 2982, who was diagnosed with Covid on Tuesday morning.

VOV.VN - Vietnam has recorded 26 coronavirus infections, including 18 locally-transmitted cases, during the past 12 hours, the Ministry of Health said in its 18.00hrs update on May 5.
The 18 local community cases were recorded in Hanoi capital (15), Dong Nai province (1) and Hai Duong province (1).
Notably, 14 of the cases in Hanoi were detected at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, becoming a new coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam.
The hospital was cordoned off during the day for epidemiological investigation, contact tracing and testing.
Under a decision signed by Dr Dao Ngoc Thach, director of the hospital, the hospital has been closed to visitors, starting on May 5, until further notice.

HANOI: Vietnam has extended the quarantine period for anyone arriving in the country to three weeks, authorities said Wednesday (May 5), following a fresh community COVID-19 outbreak.
The nation has so far kept case numbers low - recording just over 3,000 cases and 35 deaths - thanks to strict quarantine measures and extensive contact tracing.

But Vietnam reported its first community outbreak in weeks last Thursday, and other clusters have since emerged.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health announced 18 locally-transmitted cases, including 14 at a hospital, on Wednesday.
The 14 patients include one medical worker, four caretakers, and nine patients treated for other illnesses at the Dong Anh District branch of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi, the health ministry elaborated.
The institution is a central-level hospital that tends to COVID-19 patients. It has been locked down following the detection of the contagion.
Another domestic case was logged in the capital city as well.
