Community Policing Saturday: Ridgefield Officers Hold Coffee with a Cop and Drug Take Back Day

Next Today was a busy day for the Ridgefield Police Department! On this incredibly beautiful Saturday, officers participated in National Drug Take Back Day AND held Coffee with a Cop at Tazza Cafe! Thank you to all of you that participated in our National Drug Take Back Day and Coffee with a Cop events today. Both events were very successful! We appreciate your support. Also, a special thank you to Tazza Cafe Ridgefield for hosting Coffee with a Cop. Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

Drug Take Back Day scheduled

Drug Take Back Day scheduled Wellington Daily News Law enforcement officers at locations across the state will be collecting unused medications for safe disposal on  April 24. Included in the effort within Sumber County will be the Belle Plaine Police Department, 419 N Logan St, Belle Plaine. Prescription drugs will be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 24.  The collection events are part of a nationwide effort to dispose of leftover medications to prevent accidental or intentional misuse. Since the Drug Take-Back Day program began in 2010, more than 101 tons of unwanted medications have been collected and destroyed in Kansas alone. “Unused medications are dangerous for kids, pets and the environment,” said Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt. “Diversion of opioid painkillers, in particular, can contribute to the misuse of these drugs that has become a serious nationwide problem. (WVIR) - At the University of Virginia Medical Center, people were able to drive through and drop off unused medications and prescriptions, all with the goal of keeping these pills off the streets. “Across the country, across the state, across the county, there are multiple sites where people can go and drop off these medications,” resident physician at UVA Harrison Plunkett said. He says this drive-through event is in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Drug Take Back Day on April 24.
