Severe weather strikes the Magnolia Springs area

Severe weather struck the Magnolia Springs area west of Kirbyville on Thursday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service in Lake Charles to issue a severe thunderstorm warning. Jasper County Sheriff s Department Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan later said that there were several trees down along County Roads 317, 509, 511, and 515. There was a report of a tornado touching down in that area, however, Duncan said there was no evidence of a tornado, but rather only straight-line winds. There was also a report of a damaged house with people trapped inside. However, Duncan said that too was greatly exaggerated and emergency responders found no damage to houses or any other structures.

What if Laura, or a similar storm, struck Baton Rouge?

In a season where 30 storms were named and 12 made landfall, it says a lot to be the “signature” storm. However, Hurricane Laura left an everlasting impression on Louisiana breaking records, laying a long road to recovery and providing a stark reminder to the rest of the state.
