Joelton, Millersville tornadoes snapped branches, uprooted trees
A preliminary report released last week detailed the EF-0 tornadoes that appear to have been on the ground the longest on May 4.
In Joelton, which borders Cheatham and Davidson counties, a tornado was on the ground for 4.9 miles andwith estimated peak winds at 80 mph, the preliminary report showed.
It touched down at 5:52 a.m. near Cotton Harris Road near the county line and stayed on the ground for five minutes before lifting east of Ridgewood Road. It was 50 yards wide and left behind tree damage, including a few that were uprooted, the report said.

Tornadoes in Joelton and Millersville carved the longest paths after Tuesday morning storms produced at least 11 EF-0 tornadoes across Middle Tennessee, a preliminary report shows.
The National Weather Service in Nashville released more details on the tornadoes Wednesday evening. Most left tree and power line damage, along with reports of minor roof damage and several destroyed outbuildings, the report said. NWS Nashville said the information is still preliminary and that it will be refining details in the days to come.

Relentless winds and rain pummeled large swaths of the South on Tuesday, causing tornadoes, sparking a flash flood emergency in Alabama and damaging homes from Texas to Virginia. The storms prompted boat rescues, toppled trees and power lines and raised the threat of flash floods elsewhere in the region.
The National Weather Service issued the flash flood emergency for the Birmingham, Alabama, area at the start of rush hour, warning that torrential rains as much as 5 inches (13 centimeters) in some areas had already fallen and another 2 inches (5 centimeters) were possible before the storm system continued eastward.
Jefferson County Emergency Management officials in the Birmingham area urged residents to stay off the roads because so many were flooded.
