Vermont reached record high temperatures into the low 90s this week, marking what is expected to be the hottest day in a stretch of warmer-than-usual weather, the National Weather Service in Burlington said.
The weather service recorded a high of 92 degrees at its headquarters at the Burlington International Airport in South Burlington around 4 p.m. Thursday. The previous record for May 20 in the same location was set in 1975 with a recorded 91 degrees, the weather service wrote on Twitter.
Normal temperatures for this time in May are typically around 71 degrees, the post stated.
St. Johnsbury temperatures also record-setting
The airport wasn t the only place with record-setting temperatures on Thursday St. Johnsbury also cracked its record previously set in 2012. On Thursday, St. Johnsbury s high temperature reached 88 degrees by around 4 p.m., according to measurements from the weather service s automated weather station in the city.
