MARSHALL GORBY/STAFF The first day of the new year will stay wet tonight as a line of showers and isolated thunderstorms move through the area. The rain will bring brief downpours, gusty winds and even small hail will be possible, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. The threat for severe weather is low. Evening temperatures will be in the mid-40s with overnight lows dipping to the upper 30s. Rain is ending from southwest to northeast early this afternoon, leaving temperatures warming into the 40s. Freezing rain New Year’s Eve, Winter Weather Advisory for New Year’s Day Daniel Susco © Provided by Dayton Daily News Snow on Bechtle Avenue in Springfield early Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 New Year’s Day will start with freezing rain and a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 to 10 a.m. Friday for Butler, Greene, Logan, Montgomery, Preble and Warren counties, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Champaign, Clark, Darke and Miami counties, issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Freezing rain will begin late New Year’s Eve. Although accumulation will be light, one-tenth of an inch or less, it won’t take much to create slick road conditions, particularly on bridges, the NWS said.
