Xerces Society Launches Pollinator Trail Initiative to Build Habitat for Pollinators through Santa Fe

SANTA FE, N.M.; Wednesday, May 19, 2021 -A new city-wide initiative will provide flower-rich spaces for bees, butterflies and other pollinators to call home across Santa Fe. The Xerces Society, in partnership with local residents and conservation organizations, is launching the Santa Fe Pollinator Trail program this spring, with the goal of creating connected, climate-smart pollinator habitat throughout the city. “Santa Fe is an excellent location to launch this new program for urban pollinator habitat,” said Kaitlin Haase, Southwest Pollinator Conservation Specialist for the Xerces Society. “There is tremendous enthusiasm for pollinator conservation throughout the community, from individuals who are excited to grow native wildflowers to local nonprofits dedicated to urban conservation and environmental education.”  

Downtown Hendersonville s Bee Mural dedicated in morning ceremony

The mural has been painted on the exterior wall of Hands On! Children’s Museum.    Mayor Barbara Volk and City Council members, city staff members, muralist Matt Willey, Joseph Knight, director of Hands On! Children’s Museum, Bee City USA volunteers and others who have supported the project attended the ceremony, held at the site of the mural in the Azalea Parking lot, on Third Avenue East between Main and King streets.  Willey, who established his organization The Good of the Hive with a mission to paint 50,000 honey bees on walls around the world - a symbolic number related to the number of honey bees in a healthy hive - said in a news release that he s excited that Hendersonville has participated in the project.

Introduction to Bee City USA Committee members from Bee City USA (Salem) invite the community to join them at 2 p.m. Sunday at pavilion 8 in Waterworth Memorial Park. Learn what it means to be recognized as a Bee City USA community and what the committee has planned for 2021. There will be a discussion on the importance of pollinators to our local community and the surrounding area, identify many of these pollinators, and talk about how community members can help. Williamstown council discusses 4 orders of business at meeting | News, Sports, Jobs

WILLIAMSTOWN Williamstown City Council met Tuesday to discuss the following orders of business: ¯ Council voted to give Mayor Paul Jordan the authority to sign a resolution to support the Parkersburg Wood County Home Consortium, which is a program through the Department of Housing and Urban Development that facilitates funding for affordable housing. ¯ Williamstown Middle and High School tennis coach David Leo spoke with the council about vandalism concerns at the tennis court in Tomlinson Park. Additionally, 19 out of 30 light bulbs are burnt out and cost $900 each to replace. According to council member Marty Seufer, the city may be able to use some of its stimulus money to assist with this, as well as repaving the tennis and basketball courts.
